A CCTV operator, who was assigned the poll duty at Anna University in Chennai on election day (April 23), has been detained for watching the leaked version of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The man, named Yuvaraj, watched the film inside the surveillance room and shared photos and videos of himself indulging in the activity.
Yuvaraj was put on election duty and was hired on a contract basis. During his surveillance duty, the man watched the unreleased movie, which is still stuck in censor board limbo, and shared clips and pictures on his Facebook page.
Days before the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, which was scheduled on April 23, he shared the identity card where he had been assigned as the CCTV head at Anna University.

On April 9, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan was leaked in HD print online, much to the shock of the makers and fans. The film, which was billed as Vijay’s farewell movie, has been stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since January over certain scenes that could potentially hurt the sentiments of people.
The film was reportedly held because of its political content, which could prove influential for Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. He is taking part as the chief of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), for the first time.
After the CBFC flagged the scenes, the makers sought court’s intervention to obtain the censor certificate ahead of its January 9 release. However, they were involved in a month-long legal standoff, resulting in the eventual postponement of the film. The makers of Jana Nayagan then agreed to withdraw the case against CBFC and agreed to send the film to the revising committee.
Since then, there has been no update about the film’s certification process.
After the film leaked on April 9, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime police arrested nine members, including three key accused. One of the main accused was a freelance editor, who illegally accessed the footage and uploaded it online.
Following the leak, Jana Nayagan’s editor, Pradeep E Ragav, was suspended from the editor’s association for working with a freelance editor who is not a part of the film body. Though the film body claimed that Pradeep was not directly involved in the leak, they took action against him for violating the bylaws.
Recently, it has been being reported that Jana Nayagan is likely to hit theatres on May 8. However, the film hasn’t been certified yet and the makers haven’t issued any statement regarding the new release date.
Jana Nayagan is a political action drama featuring Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Menon and several others. Bankrolled by KVN Productions, the film was reportedly produced on a massive budget of Rs 500 crore.
