Harry Kane beats Cristiano Ronaldo to become 3rd fastest player to score 500 goals

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been in the records lately. Barely a week goes by without some new personal achievement from the English captain. According to Transfermarkt, he has now become the 3rd fastest player to reach the 500 career goals milestone, doing it in 10 fewer games than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Only Leo Messi and FC Bayern’s own Robert Lewandowski have managed 500 career goals at a faster rate this century. The full list is posted below:

This record puts Kane above some well known titans such as Luis Suárez, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and and Karim Benzema.

Frankly, the most absurd thing about this list isn’t the fact that Kane is on it, but how far Messi is ahead of Lewandowski and the rest. Lewy, Kane, and Ronaldo are relatively close to each other, while Messi took almost a hundred fewer games to reach the same career milestone.

Of course, in fairness to them, Messi started his senior career at FC Barcelona, while Lewandowski and Kane had to work their way up the system until they landed at a club like Bayern Munich. That is certainly a factor. Still, it shows that there are degrees to greatness, and some players really do go above and beyond.
