Friday OTT releases of the week (Feb 2 – Feb 8): Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu to The Raja Saab, new movies and shows on Netflix, JioHotstar, Prime Video

If your idea of a perfect weekend involves staying in and catching up on fresh stories, this Friday’s OTT slate has plenty to offer. From big-ticket Telugu entertainers and layered international thrillers to documentaries and heartfelt coming-of-age dramas, streaming platforms are rolling out a diverse mix between February 2 and February 8. Instead of relying on familiar formulas, many of these releases tap into emotions we recognise, family expectations, personal guilt, ambition, love, and the pull of the past. Here’s a look at what’s new on OTT this week and why each title is worth your time.

Jazz City – SonyLIV

Set during the turbulent period of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Jazz City is a Bengali historical thriller that blends politics, music and mystery. The series follows Jimmy, a street-smart hustler played by Arifin Shuvoo, who believes he can outrun his troubled past. His plans go off track when he gets drawn into international espionage. According to the makers, the underground jazz club in Kolkata is not just a setting but a symbol of resistance, with music quietly fuelling revolution.

Salvador – Netflix

This Spanish-language action thriller takes an emotional route into a dangerous subject. Salvador centres on an ambulance driver whose life changes after he discovers his daughter has joined a neo-Nazi group. As per Netflix’s description, his decision to infiltrate the extremist network is driven more by fear and love than heroism.

Shabad: Reet Aur Riwaaz – ZEE5

A gentle and rooted story, Shabad: Reet Aur Riwaaz looks at the generational gap between dreams and traditions. The series follows Ghuppi, a teenager who struggles with a stammer but dreams of becoming a footballer. His father, however, wants him to continue the family legacy of Ragi singing.

The Raja Saab – JioHotstar

Prabhas headlines this fantasy horror comedy that mixes laughs with the supernatural. The Raja Saab follows Raju, a young man searching for his missing grandfather. His journey leads him to a creepy ancestral mansion hidden deep in a forest. As revealed by the film’s team earlier, the story balances humour with spooky elements, as Raju uncovers family secrets and faces unexpected dangers.

Queen of Chess – Netflix

This documentary shines a spotlight on Judit Polgár, a name that changed the game of chess forever. Queen of Chess traces her rise as the only woman to enter the world’s top 10 rankings. Through archival footage and interviews, the film revisits her intense rivalry with Garry Kasparov and shows how she challenged long-held beliefs in a male-dominated sport.

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 – JioHotstar

Kapil Sharma returns with another dose of chaos in this sequel to his hit comedy. The film follows Mohan Sharma, whose attempt to impress his girlfriend’s conservative family leads to a string of fake marriages across religions. As the makers suggest, the humour escalates when the police step in, turning Mohan’s love life into a full-blown legal mess.

Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision – Amazon Prime Video

Narrated by Kate Winslet, this documentary explores King Charles III’s long-standing commitment to environmental conservation. Using decades of footage, the film highlights projects across continents and reflects the monarch’s belief that progress and nature must coexist.

Nari Nari Naduma Murari – JioHotstar

This Telugu romantic comedy revolves around Gautham, an architect whose engagement plans fall apart when a secret college marriage resurfaces. Packed with situational humour and emotional moments, the film explores honesty, trust and the cost of hiding the truth.

Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu – ZEE5

Starring Megastar Chiranjeevi and directed by Anil Ravipudi, this family drama became a box office phenomenon, earning over Rs 350 crore worldwide. Now, as confirmed by ZEE5, the film will begin streaming from February 11 in multiple languages, bringing its festive family appeal to OTT audiences after a four-week theatrical window.
