Kamaal R Khan KRK arrested for firing 4 rounds at Mumbai Andheri residential building

Mumbai Police have arrested actor and self-styled film critic Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, for allegedly firing four rounds at a residential building in Andheri where writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra lives.

Khan was detained from his studio on Friday night and formally arrested after questioning by a Mumbai Police team. During the interrogation, he admitted to firing the shots on January 18 using his licenced firearm. Police have recovered the weapon used in the incident.

The motive behind the firing remains unclear. Police said Khan, who describes himself as a film critic and has previously worked as an actor and director, claimed during questioning that he had no intention of harming anyone.

According to his statement, Khan told investigators that he was cleaning his gun and fired it to test its functionality. He claimed he aimed towards a mangrove forest in front of his house, believing the area to be safe for such a test.

Khan further said he assumed the bullets would be absorbed by the mangrove area, but strong winds caused one of the rounds to travel farther and hit a building in the Oshiwara area.

Officials said writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra resides on the second floor of the building, while model Prateek Baid lives on the fourth floor. Initially, police had no leads on the identity of the shooter, but the investigation later revealed Khan’s involvement. He is currently in police custody as further inquiries continue.
