Huge jolt to Telugu release of Thalapathy Vijay’s film?

jana-nayagan

Thalapathy Vijay will retire from films with Jana Nayagan. The political action drama, directed by H. Vinoth, is inspired by the Tollywood emotional drama Bhagavanth Kesari. Jana Nayagan is slated for a simultaneous Telugu release as Jana Nayakudu on January 9, 2026.

For some time now, reports have suggested that Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments had acquired the theatrical rights to this political drama in the Telugu states. However, the latest reports indicate that the star producer has backed out of the deal. While the film has inked strong theatrical deals in the Tamil market, it doesn’t seem to enjoy the same level of buzz among Telugu audiences.

If the film isn’t released by a major distribution house or producer in Telugu, it may struggle to secure sufficient screens. Adding to the challenge, competition at the Tollywood box office is already intense, with several straight Telugu films lined up for release around the same time. It remains to be seen who will handle the distribution of this Vijay starrer in the Telugu states.

Pooja Hegde plays the female lead. Mollywood sensation Mamitha Baiju of Premalu and Dude fame will be seen in a crucial role. Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Narain play supporting roles. Venkat K. Narayana of KVN Productions is producing this flick, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music.
