Comedian Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa have welcomed their second child. On Friday, December 19, Bharti gave birth to a baby boy and the family is overjoyed. They are already parents to a son, Laksh Singh Limbachiyaa, fondly called Gola, who was born in 2022.

But did you know Bharti herself was unaware of her second pregnancy for nearly two and a half months? The comedian revealed that she assumed the changes in her body were simply weight gain.

“When I got pregnant, for two and a half months, I did not even realise it. Mote logon ka pata nahi chalta (Fat people don’t notice). I am eating, shooting, running around, dancing on Dance Deewane. Then I thought let’s just check it once. When I did, I put the test down and came outside. When I went back to it and saw the two lines, I told Harsh about it,” she said in an interview to Pinkvilla.

Her revelation has left many surprised and curious. Is it really possible for a woman to be pregnant without knowing it?

Although it may sound unusual, doctors say it is possible for a woman to remain unaware of her pregnancy for nearly two and a half months, roughly between 10 and 12 weeks.

Such cases are uncommon but tend to occur when early symptoms are very mild, menstrual cycles are irregular or daily routines are extremely busy.

In a typical pregnancy, the first trimester brings noticeable physical changes. Between four and eight weeks, rising hormone levels especially hCG and progesterone begin to affect the body.

Many women experience tiredness, nausea or morning sickness which is seen in nearly 70 to 80 per cent of pregnancies along with breast tenderness, frequent urination, food aversions and mild abdominal cramps.

These early signs often alert women to take a pregnancy test soon after missing a period, usually around four weeks after conception. But this does not happen in every case. Medical experts note that around 20 to 30 per cent of women report very few or barely noticeable symptoms during the early weeks.

Irregular menstrual cycles can also play a big role. Women dealing with conditions like PCOS, hormonal imbalance, or intense physical routines may not immediately notice a missed period. Occasional spotting can further create the impression that everything is normal.

A busy lifestyle can also plays role. Long work hours, travel or physically demanding routines can distract from small body changes which may only become obvious later when a baby bump appears.

Doctors say pregnancy can usually be confirmed with tests or scans by 10 to 12 weeks. Although very rare “hidden” pregnancies can go unnoticed longer, experts suggest seeing a doctor as soon as pregnancy is suspected to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
