As global temperatures rise, along with increased ultraviolet radiation and humidity, plastics are deteriorating more rapidly, breaking down into microplastics. Furthermore, the heightened occurrence of extreme weather events such as storms, floods, and strong winds—largely attributed to climate change—is causing plastic waste to be transported over longer distances.
