Unlike earlier, West Indies started off strong, putting together a 50-run ODI opening stand against Australia for the first time since 2014. Qiana Joseph (29) was the first one to go, caught and bowled by Gardner. Captain Hayley Matthews, who took three wickets earlier, looked set for a fifty, but ended up lofting one to deep extra cover off McGrath. Stafanie Taylor fell right after, cleaned up by Wareham, while Deandra Dottin edged one to slip later in the over. In a space of six balls, Australia took a firm grip on the game.
