Vishwak Sen’s Funky takes a disappointing start at the box office; future prospects look bleak

Funky

After a satisfactory Sankranthi season, Funky had the opportunity to draw audiences to theatres, as it features noted faces and is backed by a big production house. The comedy drama stars Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar in the lead roles and is directed by KV Anudeep of Jathi Rathnalu fame.

However, the movie is off to an underwhelming start at the box office, faring well below expectations. Funky was expected to register houseful shows at least in major centres, but surprisingly, even in prime regions, the occupancy remained quite low throughout the day. The film failed to generate sufficient interest among audiences with its pre-release promotional material, and the openings are an indication of that.

Usually, Vishwak Sen’s films earn decent openings due to his mass appeal. Even his previous failures registered respectable openings, but Funky failed on that front as well. The promotional campaign clearly did not reach the audience.

Had the music been better, the comedy entertainer could have taken a much stronger start. Poor reviews from critics and below-par word of mouth have further weakened its future box office prospects. February is usually considered a dry period in Tollywood, and Funky had the potential to bail out theatres, but its mediocre execution is significantly limiting its capacity.

Produced by Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film also stars Naresh Vijayakrishna, Eeswari Rao, Sampath Raj, and Jaykrishna in key roles. Bheems Ceciroleo composed the music.
