Thalapathy Vijay divorce: Star’s wife Sangeetha demands to stay in couple’s matrimonial home amid divorce

A few days after initiating divorce proceedings, Sangeetha Sornalingam approached the District Court in Chengalpattu with a fresh plea seeking temporary protection of her residential rights. She requested the court to permit her to continue living in the couple’s marital residence in Neelankarai while the divorce case remains under consideration.

As reported by The Indian Express, she submitted an interlocutory application backed by an affidavit dated February 22. This filing is connected to the primary petition through which she has asked the court to legally terminate her marriage with actor Vijay. In addition to requesting the dissolution of the marriage, the principal petition also seeks financial support in the form of permanent alimony. Furthermore, it asks the court to acknowledge her entitlement to remain in the marital home until an equivalent alternative residence is arranged for her.

In her sworn statement, Sangeetha explained that her marriage to Vijay has lasted for 26 years and that she has maintained a lifestyle aligned with his social and financial standing throughout this period. Describing her role within the family, she noted that she had devoted herself to managing the household and supporting the family as a full-time homemaker. She also highlighted that she raised their two children—Jason Sanjay, now 25, and Divya Saasha, aged 20—while also attending to Vijay’s personal and domestic needs.
Sangeetha further revealed that before approaching the court, she attempted to settle the marital disagreements through a peaceful and mutually agreeable arrangement. However, those discussions failed to produce a resolution. According to the affidavit, Vijay’s legal representative reportedly communicated that if she continued with the legal separation process, she would not be allowed to remain in the shared residence.

This development, she stated, caused her to fear that she might lose access to suitable housing after the main petition was filed. Sangeetha, who holds British citizenship and earned a degree in biomedical science from London, explained that she currently does not have another home that matches the standard of living associated with her husband’s status.

Because of these circumstances, she has asked the court to grant a temporary order allowing her to remain in the Neelankarai property with full access to the facilities and amenities available there until the divorce case is resolved.
Vijay have been linked to his ‘Leo’ co-star Trisha Krishnan. However neither of the stars have confirmed or denied the allegations of an affair through a public statement.
