After watching the Stranger Things gang take on their final mission, viewers can now see how that ending was shaped. Netflix has announced One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a behind-the-scenes documentary that explores the making of the show’s final chapter. The film premieres on January 12 and will stream exclusively on Netflix.
The documentary offers an inside look at the years of work, collaboration, and creative pressure that went into concluding the Duffer Brothers’ generation-defining series. It follows the cast and crew closely as they bring Stranger Things 5 to life, capturing both the scale of the production and the deeply personal moments that came with ending a decade-long journey.
The film is directed by Martina Radwan, known for Girls State. Speaking to Tudum, Radwan expressed deep gratitude to Matt and Ross Duffer for allowing her such close access. She said she was endlessly thankful for their trust and described having a front-row seat to the making of the final season as an extraordinary experience.
Radwan spent an entire year on set with the team, calling it a true privilege and an absolute thrill. She shared how special it was to watch the creators bring a beloved show to life in real time. She also reflected on wishing she could go back and document Seasons 1 to 4, noting that everyone involved, from the young cast to long-time collaborators, welcomed her with remarkable generosity. According to Radwan, the Duffers constantly push boundaries, inspire those around them to do better, and represent everything she loves about filmmaking.
About the trailer
The documentary trailer strikes an emotional chord from the very first moments, opening with scenes from the final table read of Stranger Things. In a voiceover, Ross Duffer reflects on how difficult it was to write the last lines his characters would ever speak, highlighting the emotional weight of ending a story that shaped their lives and pop culture for nearly a decade.
Matt Duffer follows with an equally personal reflection, recalling how writing the words “End Series” carried an unexpected impact. As he speaks, the camera captures Noah Schnapp and Millie Bobby Brown in tears, with Schnapp leaning into Cara Buono, who played Karen Wheeler.
The trailer also cuts to stills from the show’s earliest days, reminding viewers just how young the cast was when Stranger Things first began. These flashes from Season 1 create a sharp contrast with the emotional weight of the final season, reinforcing how much time has passed and how deeply the show has been woven into the lives of everyone involved.
