Directed by Akhil Sathyan, Sarvam Maya emerged as a major success during its theatrical run. Reports credit the film with grossing over Rs 130 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year. Audiences praised the film’s blend of humour, fantasy, and emotional storytelling.
Story and cast
The film revolves around Prabhendu, an atheist born into a traditional family of Hindu priests. Despite his musical ambitions, he struggles to earn a stable income, while his father and brother enjoy success and recognition as priests, even travelling abroad for religious ceremonies. Circumstances bring Prabhendu back to his village in Palakkad, where he begins assisting his cousin Roopesh, a local priest, primarily for financial reasons rather than faith.
Prabhendu’s life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a ghost that only he can see. The spirit, who has no memory of her past, introduces herself as Delulu and carries a distinctly modern, Gen-Z personality. As chaos and confusion follow, an unusual bond forms between the two, prompting Prabhendu to uncover the truth behind Delulu’s identity while navigating his own personal struggles.
Alongside Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu, Sarvam Maya features Aju Varghese, Janardhanan, Preity Mukhundhan, Madhu Wariar, Raghunath Paleri, Arun Ajikumar, Vineeth, Methil Devika, Althaf Salim, and others in supporting roles. The film is written, directed, and co-edited by Akhil Sathyan.Produced by Ajayya Kumar and Rajeev Menon under the Firefly Films banner, the project also involves Akhil Sathyan Films as a production partner. Music for the film is composed by Justin Prabhakaran, with cinematography handled by Sharan Velayudhan. Editing responsibilities were shared between the director and Rathin Radhakrishnan.
Despite finalising its digital release, Sarvam Maya continues its theatrical run in select centres, benefiting from its positioning as a year-end holiday release. The film blends elements of comedy, fantasy, and drama, using its supernatural premise to explore themes of memory, belonging, and personal change. While the OTT debut has been confirmed for Malayalam audiences, viewers are still awaiting an official announcement regarding the availability of dubbed or subtitled versions in other languages.
