The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer puts the focus on Chris Hemsworth as he makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he has been missing from the MCU timeline since 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, the Asgardian Avenger is finally making his return in 2026, as The Multiverse Saga nears its end.
With Avengers: Doomsday trailers being screened in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the second one put the spotlight on Hemsworth’s beloved hero. After being announced to reprise the role back in March 2025, the latest trailer has finally shed some light on Thor’s story.
The footage showcases Thor being alone in the woods, as he is on his knee with Stormbreaker, praying to Odin to make a safe return so he can reunite with his daughter, Love. During his voiceover, Love can be seen getting a kiss on the forehead from Thor, as he is praying for strength to fight a new evil.
The teaser then sees the original Avenger head into a massive, final battle. This comes after the first trailer that unveiled that Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Two more trailers are still left to be released, which will carry into the new year.
It has been heavily discussed whether Hemsworth is getting ready to finish his time as the Marvel icon, as he has been part of the franchise since 2011. With no word on Thor 5, it’s highly possible that The Multiverse Saga could be the end of an era for the Australian star.
It’s unclear if Hemsworth will be part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast, as only a handful of stars have been revealed at this time. Filming on the Phase 6 finale is slated to begin during the summer of 2026.
The marketing for this film is one of the more unique tactics from Marvel Studios in a long time, with this being one of the most highly anticipated entries for the MCU franchise. As two more teasers remain, the world will soon know what else is in store with the Avengers: Doomsday story.
