Penguin Securities, a financial services firm based in Singapore, just pulled in $18 million (about ¥2.8 billion) in pre-A funding. That’s a big step forward for them, especially as they look to grow and expand around the world.
The money comes from a mix of strategic investors and venture capital firms, which puts Penguin in a good spot to strengthen its business in Japan and build more digital and traditional financial products.
The round closed on February 5, 2026, and brought in some well-known Japanese backers—names like Mint, Tokyo University of Science Investment Management Co., Third Wave Financial, Nakashima Tohsho, and United.
Having such a varied group of investors really shows how much people are paying attention to the overlap between digital assets and regulated financial markets right now.
Penguin Securities works under the rules set by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and holds a Capital Markets Services (CMS) license.
With this license, the company can offer a wide range of investment products, everything from securities and derivatives to other tools that fit into both digital and traditional finance.
A Strategic Move into Japan
A significant part of this fundraising round will go towards helping Penguin Securities enter the Japanese market. Japan has one of the fastest-growing and most innovative fintech markets, particularly in digital assets and embedded finance.
With a strong, albeit very supportive, regulatory environment, Japan has been leading the way on fintech innovation in the areas of regulation, security, and compliance. With the additional funding, Penguin Securities will be able to open a local subsidiary in Japan and provide locally licensed financial services to retail and institutional investors.
This will include bridging the gap between conventional securities trading and the purchase of emerging digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies and security tokens.
The company will also be able to offer regulated crypto derivatives, which, together with other traditional financial instruments, will be a defining offering in highly regulated markets.

Regulatory Backbone Fuels Confidence
Penguin Securities’ MAS license is crucial to its strategic approach. With its forward-looking regulations around digital assets and capital markets, Singapore has been able to establish itself as a global financial center.
While the CMS license enables the company to operate within several asset classes, it also demonstrates governance, liability, risk management, and protection of the rights of the investors, which are of high importance for institutions.
“The regulatory approval from MAS is a testament to Penguin Securities’ adherence to stringent compliance standards,” stated the company representative, emphasizing the importance of trust for the financial services industry.
