China e-commerce sales rise 9.2% in early 2026

China’s e-commerce sector recorded steady growth in the first two months of 2026 as digital consumption remained robust, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

China’s online retail sector maintained solid momentum in the first two months of 2026, with total e-commerce sales rising 9.2 per cent year on year (YoY), supported by pro-consumption policies and strong demand for smart products and imported food.
The Ministry of Commerce said digital consumption, agricultural products, and cross-border platforms were key drivers of growth.

“With pro-consumption policies continuing to take effect in the e-commerce sector, total online retail sales of goods and services rose by 9.2 percent year on year (YoY) in January and February,” the MOC said on March 24, 2026, citing data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Smart products stood out among the key products monitored by the MOC. The ministry’s data also showed steady growth in agricultural products, with online retail sales rising by 17.6 percent during the period.

Cross-border e-commerce also remained resilient. From January to February, major e-commerce import platforms reported a 7.6 percent increase in sales of global products.

The expansion reflects continued efforts to integrate rural producers into digital marketplaces and improve supply chain efficiency.

The figures indicate that China’s policy measures to stimulate domestic demand and promote digital consumption are continuing to support the country’s retail sector at the start of 2026.
