Blaze destroys e-commerce warehouse in Ahmedabad, no casualties | Ahmedabad News

A MASSIVE fire destroyed a warehouse located in the Chandkheda area of Ahmedabad in the early hours of Thursday, police said. The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) reached the spot and began a firefighting operation that went on for nearly two-and-a-half hours, finally extinguishing the blaze with the help of eight water-bowsers and tankers.

A fire department official said the entire warehouse was gutted but some of the products lying outside were salvaged. The warehouse was a storage point for multiple e-commerce companies, said the officer, adding that fire safety systems were installed on the premises. No injuries or casualties were reported.

In a statement issued later on Thursday, a spokesperson for Flipkart said, “We are aware of a fire incident that occurred at a commercial complex in Motera, Ahmedabad. Our primary concern is the safety of our people, and most importantly, we can confirm that all personnel are safe, with no reported injuries or untoward incidents.”

It said, “Based on preliminary information available to us, the fire originated elsewhere within the general commercial complex and later spread to adjacent facilities, including our micro-fulfilment centre.

Our facility operates in full compliance with all applicable safety regulations and holds the necessary statutory fire safety approvals. Our on-site teams responded immediately and worked closely with emergency services to support containment efforts.”

The statement added, “We are currently working in full coordination with the local authorities as they manage the situation and conduct their assessment. We will provide further updates as they become available.”
